Ed Kaneen
MEng BTh MA PhD FHEA
Co-Principal
Ed has been Co-Principal of Cardiff Baptist College since 2019. With Rosa Hunt, Ed has responsibility for the overall direction of the College and oversight of the day-to-day running. He has particular responsibility for the close working relationship with Cardiff University, working with the School of History, Archaeology and Religion.
He teaches in the areas of New Testament and Christian Origins for Cardiff University, and has particular research interests in the Synoptic Gospels, and the relationship between the social world of the first century (particularly economics, gender, power and authority) and the first Christians. He is willing to consider PhD proposals in any of these areas.
Ed joined Cardiff Baptist College in 2012 from Durham University, where he was working for a PhD focusing on slavery as a metaphor for discipleship. While there, he also taught New Testament for Durham University, for Cranmer Hall, and for Lindisfarne RTP.
Before Durham, Ed was the first pastor of Sheddingdean Baptist Church in West Sussex, and also studied for an MA in Biblical Studies at King’s College London. Ed trained for ministry at Regent’s Park College, Oxford, where he was student pastor at John Bunyan Baptist Church, Cowley, and a chaplaincy visitor at Warneford Psychiatric Hospital.
Before training for ministry, Ed worked for BT in Ipswich, where he undertook computer science research, working on getting computers to understand human language.
Ed is married with a daughter at Secondary School in North Cardiff, where he is a member of Ararat Baptist Church.
