Stephen Roberts

BA MA PhD

Tutor in Practical Theology and Mission, and Director of Postgraduate Studies

Stephen is first and foremost a practical theologian. This means that he is interested in doing theology in the midst of life and ministry and the range of practices that are part of lived experience both inside and outside of the Church. He is an Anglican who values working ecumenically. Whilst his primary role since 2004 has been in theological education, his own experience of ministry has involved university chaplaincy as well as church-based ministry. Alongside his full-time role at the College, he is an Assistant Priest at St John the Baptist Church in Wales Church in Cardiff city centre.  His academic work, all under the heading of ‘practical theology’ includes inter-faith relations, chaplaincy studies, and the relationship between music and theology. He is moderator for the Interfaith Theological Advisory Group of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, a group he has been a member of since its inception in 2012. He loves listening to and playing music – ‘musicking’ in all its forms, in fact! – and is a proud member of the Cardiff-based community band Wonderbrass.
