
Richard Weaver
Tutor in Community Engagement and Pathways
Richard joined the college as a tutor in September 2022, having previously been a research associate at the college. Alongside his college ro9le, he is a community organiser with Citizens Cymru Wales, the Welsh chapter of Citizens UK. He graduated in December 2024 with a PhD awarded by the Graduate School of Religion and Theology, Vrije Universiteit (VU), having studied through the VU and the International Baptist Theological Study Centre in Amsterdam. Richard's doctoral thesis focused on developing a stronger Baptist theological ethic for the practice of social justice.
Richard grew up in Wales and England, and has also lived and worked in Belgium, Brazil and Peru. He has a BSc in Cell biology from the University of Manchester, an MSc in International development from the Unive4rsity of Bath, a Post Graduate Certificate in Community Organising from Queen Mary University of London and a Post Graduate Research Certificate in Theology from IBTS Amsterdam. Richard worked for 16 years in International Development leading campaigning on climate change, environment and disasters and on HIV and AIDS. He was a trustee of the John Ray Initiative from 2008-2012.
Richard is married to Jennie and they have three boys. He and his family attend Capel Y Tabernacl in Efail Isaf; a Welsh-medium Annibynwyr Church about a mile from where they live. Richard is also passionate about football, rugby, running, trees, coasts and Wales especially when all are combined.
